TINA REIF, OCRP Treasurer

Tina Reif was born and raised in the heartland of America- in central Indiana, home to Ball State University, the birthplace of the Ball canning jar and Borg Warner Transmissions. Raised in a rural community surrounded by cornfields and hard working farming families, Tina developed an early appreciation for all things Agricultural. She and her husband of 43 years made the decision early on to live as a ‘one income’ family, allowing Tina to be at home with their 3 children, which resulted in her becoming a 20-year Homeschool veteran mom. During those busy child rearing years Tina was involved in many activities outside of the home, including serving on the board of the local pregnancy care center, leading 4-H clubs, serving as children’s pastor, and going on mission trips. Each role and responsibility was met with integrity, vision and steadiness of character. Each responsibility allowed for new areas of growth, something that Tina still appreciates today. The recession of 2008 caused much damage to the automotive industry in Indiana, ultimately leading to the closing of the original Borg Warner Transmission plant in Muncie, which is where Tina’s husband was employed. That closing brought the two of them here to Oconee Co. in 2009, to the Borg Warner Seneca plant. Seeking another small town atmosphere, they settled outside of Walhalla. Moving to SC from the only place she had ever lived was a huge change. If this was now to be her community, she was going to find ‘her place’ and ‘her people’ and get involved.

As a conservative Christian with an unwavering Pro-life stance, she began her journey into Oconee Co politics by attending County Council meetings, school board meetings, reading the local paper and asking lots of questions. When the OCCA formed, Tina was excited to officially join the conservative movement. Tina serves her precinct as its secretary. Outside of politics Tina is involved in leadership at her church, runs a mini farm, works with 4-H youth, and is the Admin at the Oconee Co. Clemson Extension office in Walhalla. When people ask her if she went to Clemson, Tina is quick to say that she attended “that other Land Grant University…..Purdue!”

TONY ADAMS, Oakway Executive Committee Member

Tony is a native of Oconee County and has lived in the Oakway community his entire life except for a few years in the late 1970's and early 1980's when his family moved away with his job. He graduated from Oakway High School in 1968 and from Clemson University in 1973 with a Degree in Industrial Management with a concentration in Textile Science. For the next 25 years he held a variety of management jobs in the textile, metalworking, and plastic industries. In 1998 he made a career change and took a job with the South Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation as a Production Coordinator until he retired in 2012.

Like the majority of our Conservative base in Oconee County, Tony voted Republican, but had never been formally involved in party politics until early 2021 when he was invited to the first organizational meeting of the Oconee County Conservatives. After that meeting he did some research on the OCRP and South Carolina Republican Party (SCGOP). The 10 Fundamental Principles the SCGOP Platform is based upon caught his attention quickly and he realized those Principles mirrored his personal politics, so he signed on to the Oconee County Conservative's plan to reorganize the OCRP to better reflect our large majority Conservative base in Oconee County.

What does it mean to be a Republican to Tony?

“As far as what it means to be a Republican to me personally I have to go all the way back to the founding of our great nation and the fact that our Founders risked everything they had, including their lives, to establish our Great Nation based on Republican politics as they formed our Republic of United States and gave us our own unique Freedom, Rights and Economy based upon Free Market Capitalism as they wrote our Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

I have seen good times and bad times during my lifetime. My first clear memories are from the early/mid 1950's. I have come to see the decade of the 1950's as the heyday of America and the height of the American Dream being realized. America had been victorious in World War II and soldiers returned home and took jobs in our booming industrial base and other areas of employment, married, had families, built homes, bought cars, etc. We lived the American Dream that has been taken away from us over the decades since the 1950's.

I see the November 22, 1963 assassination of President Kennedy as a huge change point for our Country. America changed dramatically on that single day in my personal opinion. I was 13 years old and remember that time period very well. I am also painfully aware of Lyndon Johnson becoming President and promoting his Great Society during his administration of the late 1960's. To me LBJ's Great Society was the beginning of many of the large government and societal negative consequences impacting our Country today, especially the fact that the American Dream has been taken away for a good portion of our younger generations today.

To me, being a Republican is to do my small part to return the American Dream for our children, grandchildren and future generations, and to do this we need to ensure that America remains the strong leader of the Free World.

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

ROGER NORWOOD, Westminster 1 Executive Committee Member

Roger and his wife Annie's entire lives surrounds their 5 children - one of which unfortunately passed on and is waiting in heaven. 4 girls, one son plus 5 grand’s as well. Annie works as a caregiver and Roger retired as an award winning chemical operator from BASF.

For over 19 years Roger and Annie opened their home to foster children and during that time, they parented 30 children. Our youngest – Tabitha- we adopted from it. Being aware of the needs of kids, primarily due to raising a special needs child (Tabitha), made me a strong advocate and staunch defender for children.

Roger and Annie are members of Foothills Presbyterian and attend services when health allows them, but Roger’s faith is a big part of his life. His favorite part of the South Carolina Republican creed is “I will never cower before any master, save my God.” No man or organization is more important than that in his opinion.

In the 1980s Roger met a Republican at the Apple Festival and it changed his life and his outlook on politics. His dad had instilled in him the desire to learn to think, discuss, and debate – but this Republican who is his mentor, help him refine those skills and gave him a forum to do so.. The Republican Party emphasis on God and freedom of speech led to a lifelong study of the party and its great people. After a lifetime of study, Roger came to the conclusion that compassion and faith were welcome.
